Career Future

1. Well all my life my dream has been to become a doctor or someone that works in the health care system. I don't know if today my dream will ever be fulfilled, but I can still hope to one day do it. The reason I first started to do this is because of an incident my dad had, and several of my own personal experiences. I always thought that helping others would be rewarding, just to put a smile on the persons face because of something you did to help them. Well today I think that there are many ways to do that, I always saw as the doctors as the persons that did things just to help, but now I see that health care is a very lucrative business. In my dreams I always saw my self working in a hospital with a patient being brought in a bed from an accident seen, with blood over his body and going directly into the OR.

2. I don't really know any specific topic, but I do recall writing a paper in my evolution class, which talked about the minimum number of genes that took to sustain life, and what it would take to create life. In the field of science and DNA research i think that there is always debates about how cloning is inhuman and it should not be done at any level. But many of the product that we consume today are man made or at least genetically engineered to get the most out of it. There is not only controversy within the field, but it also causes problems outside of it. There are many religious activists that do not approve of the science developments specially cloning and genetic engineering. Many say that human's should not be playing God, and depending on your believes you might or might not agree with that. Personally i think that science and religion have always....

Work

Today i wasn't sure if it was going to be a good, because unlike every other day my wednesdays i have to spend the whole day in school. In parts that is good, but on the other hand i don't get to do spend time with my family, which to me is very important. I don't know if its because i was never away from my family for more than 2 weeks, in which i spent most of my time at home doing nothing, or at work. I enjoy my work, most of the times, not only because i have lots of friends there, but also because i get to meet new people everyday. Of course like everyone i have my good days at work, but there are days in which i would rather not be at work. Many times its because of the way i interact with the costumers which gets me to think. People come to Best Buy to get electronics, but there are others that to me it seems that come to argue. It my be because at the costumer service desk, but that out of the question, some people come with the only intention to fight and argue. I will admit that sometimes it is I that starts the argument but, only because i'm trying to do my job. However people don't seem to understand that and more then once i have been threatened and told i was going to get my ass kicked after the store was closed. I always try not to pay much attention to those threats because till now no one has ever showed up. So yeah Best Buy is fun and I'd have to say that i really enjoy working there, specially the holiday season, because the days go by so fast since we are so busy.

Verbal Videos

1. Walking in the room the first thing you see was the big bed. The room was surrounded with the old curtains that dragged on all the way to the ground from the small windows. Lying on bed was my dad watching his regular Saturday movie on the sixteen inch black and white TV. A couple of feet away my mom ironing some shirts that he had just picked form the clothesline. Everything was se to be another Saturday afternoon at home.

2. Job, who is my brother, and I were sitting down on the ground next to the bed, playing with Legos, which had our teeth marks all over it from taking them apart. A small moan comes from the bed, which sounded like my dad. I took a peak, pulling down the bed covers, and there was my dad looking under his shirt. I approached him and saw a big red mark on the left side of his chest.

3. Uncontrolled screams was all you could hear from my mom, brother and I when located the bug that had bit him. Under the little dog doll we found the black-widow that had bitten my dad. The iron ended up on the ground my mom holding my dad and crying helplessly. My dads skin with every minute felt more like ice, and his left side was not under his control anymore.

4. My mom runs, still with tears flowing like a river on her cheeks, next door to my uncle’s house. You can see her head through the windows as she goes through the hallway that leads to my uncle’s room. My dad’s condition is getting worse by the minute, and my brother and I are trying to help him get dressed to take him to the hospital.

5. His left arm was in, however we were struggling with the right side of the shirt; I pulled down on the shirt and my brother held my dad’s hand. Just like my mom left she came in, right behind her was my uncle who owned a motorbike, which was going to be my dad’s ambulance to the hospital. It was a black colored bike that he had rebuilt, the rust on the metal and the worn out seat told us it had been used.
It took more then the usual five kicks to turn the bike on, which raised the tension and worry levels even higher.

6. Entering the hospital the distinctive smell of sickness arouse and gave me the chills. To feel more comfortable and safer I decided to hold my moms right hand, which gave me the warmth I needed. As we walked in I we passed through many rooms, each one told a different story and felt like a different world. I wanted to peek into all of them, but my mom’s hand pulled me back like the leash of a dog being walked in the park, all I could hear was the silence of the place, which was accompanied with the beeping of the machines, and the occasional, “nurse”.

7. My brother started feeling uneasy, as if he could feel my dad’s presence, approaching his room. The door was shut, but there was light crawling out of it, as if to guide us and invite us in. My mom was not crying anymore, her cheeks had trail of tears. The room was very small with machines and tubes running all over my dad’s room. With a dull expression of internal sadness on his face, and tubes running out of his nose, my dad laid in bed, silent and unconscious, with his eyes closed and laying flat on his back looked very helpless.

Career Passion

Well ever since I can remember I have been passionate about the medical career. Maybe after my father was bitten by the black-widow, is where i really started to see that, medicine brings joy to people. Because I could see how my dad was laying in bed not moving and I could not do anything about it. This got me thinking and I realized that helping others was what I really enjoyed doing, and what better way to help someone than by saving their lives or by saving a loved one. I can recall the day I found out that my dad was getting better and his vital signs where improving. Through out the whole thing my heart was pounding in my chest so hard that it felt like my ribcage was going to split open. Now today I think about it and I think the same but with a different perspective, before I thought that the only people that had a chance to save someones life was a doctor, but I see that firefighters, policemen do the same, paramedics, people that many times we don't give credit to. I guess what really motivates me is just being able to help someone, because to me there is no better feeling than knowing that you can give someone a hand. now that I think about it, its not all about helping others, but more of the feeling that i get when I help someone. I guess that is what really drives me, because every time i help someone I feel like I'm needed and I'm valued.

Three influential people

Well I guess the obvious choices would be my mom and dad. Well and I think that it might seem that I am picking the easiest route, but if I explain why I'm choosing them it might help to understand my decision. Well first of all my parents both come from families that have very limited resources, and that did not attend school after high school. My parents dropped out of college because I came into play, and although that might not have been the smartest choice, I think they did it for the best. My mom stayed home and my dad traveled with a company working in the development of natural gas lines around the country. At first we did not have anything, all three of us lived in a room that we rented from another family member. Later my brother was born and my dad looked for a different job to support us. Even though my dad spent most of his time out of the country, every moment he spent with us is memorable, and for that I thank him. Although my parents might not have given me riches and gold the gave me the values and ideals that brought me here today, and with those i hope to one day make them proud. Another person that inspired me all my life was my grandfather, Juan, who was there for us during the times that my father was away. And I'm not saying that my dad was not there, but just the fact that my grandfathers presence was obvious and he was the one that always told me that no matter what I did in life he would always be proud of me. He would always take us to ride our bikes and there he would tell me that I was the grandson, that made him proud. Today thinking of him and what he said to me i can find the strength to continue.

Things I noticed on my way to school

As I walked to my first classes i wasn't really paying attention to anything in particular, all i can recall is walking across parking lot A in a hurry, but i did notice that there were people working on the grass towards the back of parking lot A. Now that i think about it traffic on my way to campus was really not as busy as it usually is on a Wednesday morning. Usually when I come, I spend at least twenty minutes longer than usually to get here, because of traffic. But today was different I got here fairly quickly. I think it was because all the traffic lights on my way here were green at least as I encountered them. Once getting here though it was kind of hard finding a parking space because I am used to parking close in lot a, but this year the parking lots fill up early in the day and by the time I get here I end up parking all the way back. At least I find a parking space, so is not all bad i guess.

Mason Pond Experience

It was that Wednesday evening after class around 8:30pm that I decided to sit down and do nothing but listen to the sounds that surrounded me. After having dinner with a couple of my friends, I was walking to my car and I found the perfect spot for my listening experience, Mason Pond. I located myself in one of the benches around the pond and decided to close my eyes and listen.
All I could hear at first were the loud and obvious noises like engines rumbling, ,and the brakes of stopping cars yielding for pedestrians. Another obvious noise was the water from the fountain as it went up in the air and hit back down with a splash. I could also hear the footsteps of people crossing the bridge. It wasn’t until after while that I started hearing more discrete noises. Even though we all know that there are animals in the bushes, one never really sits down to listen to them in their natural habitat. I could hear the squirrels walking and running up and down from the trees, almost sounding like I was at the playground listening to kids play.
Another discrete sound was the chatter of people as they crossed the bridge. I could not clearly hear what they were saying, or quote any particular conversation, because they went by me rather fast. However I could tell whether they were arguing or having a good time, because of their clear laughter or shouting. The hour was almost up and as I was gathering my things to head home, when I heard sirens, which always gives me the chills, because they never bring good news, but to me it was a sign for me to stop. After collecting all the information for my paper, I realized two things, first that I cannot sit for an hour and do nothing but listen, with out a lot of effort. Second that we don’t really pay attention to the sounds around us, which many times tell us more information then our visuals, and we should use that more often.
